Reaching into the wider community
Since 1988 a
summer camp program has been held to serve an even larger group
of special needs people. It offers much-needed respite and recreation
for individuals who have difficulty finding vacation situations
that provide sufficient care along with the traditional pleasures
of summer camp.
Responding to local need, Plowshare Farm hosts groups of school
children several times a year who learn about farm life and grow
in understanding of the abilities found in the disabled population.
They also gain a healthy, ecologically sound respect for the land.
Volunteer and apprenticeship opportunities for training in social
services and traditional farming techniques attract young adults
from the U.S. and all over the world. They return to their native
countries as good ambassadors of our lifesharing model. |
